Timing: Allow 60 minutes for this activity

Part 1

The reading for this part of the activity is:

Schuler, R. S., Jackson, S. E. and Tarique, I. (2011) ‘Global talent management and global talent challenges: strategic opportunities for IHRM’, Journal of World Business, vol. 46, no. 4, pp. 506–16.

You will need to access this article through the OU Library. Go to the Library Search and search for global talent management and global talent challenges. This article should be listed at or near the top of the results list. (If you conduct a phrase search by enclosing the phrase in quotation marks you will find there are only one or two results returned.)

Click on the article and either read it online or download the PDF. Whichever you do, keep the browser window open as you will need to return to it later.

This article sets out a summary of the challenges for strategic talent management across the globe. Read it, take notes on the key issues raised and think about whether these issues are framed from either an economic or social perspective. Focus your reading on issues you feel are relevant to the particular circumstances of your organisation or an organisation known to you.
