Activity 3.1: Analysing context

 Timing: Allow 40 minutes for this activity

Consider your own organisation or an organisation known to you. Using the template from Figure 3.2, add three critical factors for this organisation in respect to each layer of the figure (outer context, inner context, HR strategy and HRD strategy), as you see them developing over the next two to three years.

Reflect on any aspects that are difficult to place in a particular section of the template. What might be the implications of this for HRD strategy development in this organisation? Don’t worry at this stage if you find it difficult to complete all aspects as it may be that thinking about these issues raises more questions than it offers answers.
