Activity 2.4: What does learning mean for you?

Timing: Allow 90 minutes for this activity

Part 1

Spend some time making notes about what you think is meant by ‘learning’. This could be based on your own experience as an HR or HRD practitioner or as an individual learner. Try to construct your own definition based on the question: What does learning mean for you?

Part 2

Now listen to the speakers in Video 2.2: Talking about learning. As you listen, make notes about what they say and the words they use in their interviews. The following questions might help in your note taking:

  • Are there common elements that all speakers highlight in the way they talk about learning? Are there any areas of disagreement?
  • How does your initial definition of learning compare to the views expressed here?
